Away from fungi, Kate has worked with woodland maintenance teams in Rutland – specifically in the clearance of plastic tree supports, and been a River Warden for the Welland Branch of the East Mercia Rivers Trust, collecting vital data on the health of local waterways.

She has also helped green up the urban landscape of Leicester with sourcing and planting trees in the garden at LPW, and has volunteered on Toad Patrol in Bedfordshire (helping toads migrating to breeding sites across busy roads).

Kate is an enthusiastic gardener and allotment holder, growing much of her own food and creating wildlife friendly environs as she goes.

MYCOLOGY and NATURE

Informing and inspiring her creative output is Kate's keen interest and commitment to the natural world and its conservation.

As well as a life-long member of the RSPB, on moving to Stamford Kate joined the Leicester and Rutland Wildlife Trust and the Rutland Natural History Society.

She is an active member of both, and is the Fungi Recorder for the RNHS. She is also a member of the Leicester Fungi Study Group, and has been a  member of the British Mycology Society since 2022.
